My Story

My name is Lely. I am single and I had worked as a Senior Shipping Coordinator.

On 16 Jan 2012 – I fainted and gained consciousness two weeks later in National University Hospital. I learned that I suffered a stroke and a piece of my skull had to be removed so that the massive bleeding in my brain could be stopped. I was surrounded by friends and loved ones, who gave me the strength to continue living. I spent about a month in NUH and another month at St Luke’s community hospital for rehabilitation.

Today, my condition has improved tremendously. It was indeed a miracle that I survived and my mental capacity remains intact. Despite the fact that I need a full-time caregiver, I am thankful that I am able to get out of bed. I am thankful that I am able to communicate with my friends via emails and messages. I am thankful for this second chance.

In March 2015, I had a skull implant. My operation was a success.

I hope that I can lead a more purposeful life to inspire other stroke patients and their loved-ones to be pro-active in gaining control of their life. I would not have come this far without the love and support of my family and friends.

Indeed every day is a gift from God!
